DeVonna Strand was born on July 28, 1922 in Iowa. She and her family moved from Iowa to Pine River, and from there to Baudette when she was 11 or 12 years old. She attended school in Wabanica and then Baudette School. She graduated from high school in 1940.
She and Alfred Strand were married in 1941 and farmed in Wabanica Township. She was very active in the community, holding offices in community club and farmers union. She was also very active in Wabanica Lutheran Church, in Ladies Aid and holding offices in the church and teaching Sunday School. She went to beauty school and worked various jobs until she bought her home on the Rainy River. She loved it there and raised beautiful gardens and lots of flowers. She also loved to cook. She lived there until September of 2013.
She is survived by her children, Alroy and Steven Strand, and Merna Larson; 6 grandchildren, Keith and Brian Larson, Kristi Solo, Debbie LaValley and her husband, Michael and JeriAnn Strand, Allison Strand. She is also survived by 13 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents Les and Elsie Stout, 2 brothers, Rainerd and Stanton Stout and one sister Lorna Fristad.
