Delford Sanford Lee, 90

Delbert Sanford Lee was born on June 14, 1923 in Badger, MN to Knut and Molly (Johnson) Lee. He grew up in the Badger area and attended country school for four years before quitting to help his father on the family farm. Delbert married Irene Bishop of Roseau, MN on May, 12 1952 in Ross, MN. They moved to International Falls, MN where he worked at the paper mill for four years before returning in 1958 to Badger, MN. After returning to Badger, Delbert acquired dairy cattle and would start his farm. Delbert was a hardworking man and was always busy working on the farm. However, no matter how busy Delbert was with the farm he always made time on Sunday afternoon to take his kids fishing. Delbert enjoyed many things in his life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, ski-dooing, four wheeling and camping with his family. He played cards and Dominos and loved playing checkers with Grandpa Bishop. Delbert was very musical and played the guitar and mouth organ. One of Delbert’s favorite things to do was to work on his antique John Deere tractors and attend Rollag, he and Irene were lifetime members. Delbert and Irene were also members of Roseland Church and Delbert dedicated his life to Christ. He and Irene spent 47 years together on the farm before moving into the Badger Creek apartments. They also celebrated 60 years of marriage together. Delbert was a wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a man well liked and made friends wherever he went. He met many of those friends driving his golf cart around Badger later in life. Delbert is survived by his loving wife Irene; children, Sandra (Clark) Sather of Detroit Lakes, MN, Sanford (Spring) Lee of Clarksville, TN, Jimmy (Audrey) Lee of Warroad, MN, Allan (Annette) Lee of Warroad, MN, Sonia (Doug) Heppner of Warroad, MN, Linda (Mike) Palmquist of Warroad, MN, David (Sandy) Lee of Roseau, MN, Wayne (Sonia) Lee of Greenbush, MN; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. Delbert is preceded in death by his parents; 5 sister; 3 brothers.
Delbert passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Life Care Medical Center in Roseau, MN at the age of 90.
A Funeral Service for Delbert S. Lee of Badger, MN was held on Monday, March 3, 2014 at 11:00AM at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Badger, MN. Visitation was on Sunday, March 2, 2014 from 5-7 PM with a 7 PM payer service at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN. Interment will be held in the Badger City Cemetery at a later date.
