Maxine Driscoll, 84

Maxine Driscoll, 84, of East Grand Forks MN passed away Friday, May 9, 2014, at Altru Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Maxine was born in Dorset MN on October 15, 1929 to Harry and Annabel (Geddes) Sheppard.  Maxine graduated from East Grand Forks Central High School in 1947 and remained close to her classmates with regular lunches over the years. She married Keith Driscoll on November 25, 1948 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, East Grand Forks, celebrating 65 years of marriage in Mesa AZ last fall with their immediate family.

Maxine was a volunteer throughout her life and was honored to be named Greater Grand Forks Woman of the Year in 1985 for her community involvement including Family Hostess at United Hospital (now Altru). She was a charter member of Euterpe Music Club in the early ‘50s and joined Thursday Music Club in later years. She was an avid golfer and a member of two book clubs.  Maxine was as an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for 66 years involved in the adult choir, Sacred Heart Music Ministry, Ladies Guild, Eucharistic Minister, Parish Life and Action and Classroom volunteer at Sacred Heart Grade School.

To quote Maxine when she was interviewed by the Grand Forks Herald for her award, “When you see what I’m involved in, you may think that I don’t know how to say no. I have said it a few times but I found it much more interesting to say yes and see where it leads. If I’ve helped someone I’m glad but I’ve gained much more than I’ve given.”

Maxine is survived by her husband Keith and was the ultimate mom of 10 children: Linda Mahoney, Burnsville MN; Dianne (Pat) Phaneuf, EGF; Rebecca Driscoll, Minneapolis; Jeff (Robin) Driscoll, Tucson AZ; Greg (Barb Kelly) Driscoll, EGF; Margi (John) Zavoral, EGF; Donovan (Kathleen) Driscoll, Moorpark CA, 24 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren, daughter in law Nancy Driscoll Green, of Deerfield, WI, son in law Wayne Mondt of Clearbrook, MN, brother Ronald (Helen) Sheppard of Dallas, TX, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  She is preceded in death by children, Marilyn, Brian and Ann and her parents.
