Ellen Dawn Smith, 56
Ellen Dawn Smith was born on October 11, 1957 in Greenbush, MN to Edgar and Peggy (Yates) Castle. Ellen grew up in the Badger area; she attended school in Badger, MN and graduated in 1975. Ellen married Richard Smith in 1976 and the couple had two children. They moved to California and were married for 7 years before Ellen and the kids moved back to Badger in 1982. Ellen was a hard worker and had numerous jobs. She worked at the Wally’s Bakery, a restaurant in Badger and in 1994 she started working at Polaris industries where she would work for the next 19 years. Ellen also had many hobbies. She enjoyed camping, fishing, cooking, playing bingo and going to the casino. Ellen was known for making the best brownies. Most of all Ellen loved spending time with her friends and family; especially her grandchildren. She loved them more than anything. Ellen has also had a long history with Our Redeemers Lutheran Church; she was Baptized and Confirmed there and had been a long time member of the congregation. She is survived by her children, Heather (Delray) Johnson of Roseau, MN, Jared Smith of Roseau, MN, Trish Curry (Special friend/daughter); grandchildren, Dylan, Easton and Ashlyn Johnson, Riley, Bentley Smith, Mckenzi Curry (Special granddaughter); her mother, Peggy Castle; brother, Chet (Karen) Castle of Badger, MN; sisters, Linda (Ron) Flemming of West Fargo, ND, Tina (Kevin) Johnson of Wannaska, MN. She is preceded in death by her father, Edgar Castle. Ellen was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her. A Funeral Service for Ellen D. Smith of Roseau, MN was held on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 10:30 AM at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Badger, MN. Visitation was held on Friday, June 13, 2014 at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN from 5-7 PM and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment was held at Badger City Cemetery in Badger, MN. Ellen passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at the Warroad Senior Living Center in Warroad, MN at the age of 56.
