John Wayne Craig,71

 John Wayne Craig,71, of Williams MN died on Friday June 13, 2014,at
the Lakewood Health Center in Baudette,MN.,after a long  courageous
battle with melanoma cancer. He was surrounded by his loved ones at
the time of death, as hands were united  Pastor Tom Oberg prayed with
the family over his bedside. John Wayne peacefully died. God was
merciful,and took him Home to his eternal home in Heaven.
  John Wayne was born on  January 27,1943 to  Margaret and
Frederick  Craig in Warroad MN. He grew up and attended the Mayhood
School through the 6th grade and then went to Williams High School
and graduated in 1961.
 John Wayne worked at Marvin Lumber until the army took him to
Vietnam in 1965-66. He said “they taught me how to type in boot camp
then they gave me a gun”.  He fought for his Country with the  Big
Red One  Division for 13 months sending home mail regularly to his
family and his love, Nancy.
Nancy waited for that mail,often skipping school to get that special
letter from her Sweetheart.
On August 26, 1967  John Wayne and Nancy (Lockhart) were married and
lived at Cedar,MN. To the union of their marriage they were so
blessed to have 2 children Kevin and Jill.
Kevin Wayne  and Jill Kristin (Tim Pearson) were lucky to have such a
loving, caring dad.  John worked as a bricklayer and at the  Ford
  When the babies blessed the marriage,John thought it was very
important that mama stayed home with the babies. “He would bring home
the bacon,and she could cook it in the pan.” At times he worked three
jobs so mama could do that.  They moved back home to Williams, MN to
be closer to family in 1973 and had Craig’s Service. John volunteered
for the Williams Fire Dept, Williams City Council, he was a member of
Bethany Church,and served on the church Council,he was a Fire
Warden,and was a member of the Goldstrand Beadle Legion. John worked
as a heavy Equipment operator for 31 years until 2009 when he
retired. John was diagnosed with melanoma cancer behind his eye just
retirement. He always had a positive attitude, and said,”Don’t cha
worry,I will be fine.”   John Wayne had passion for life and
enjoying living until the end.
Grandpa loved his 4 grandchildren,and they brought him much happiness
and lots of laughs, Zachary, Kirk, Jacob, and little Sissy Ksana
Pearson. Anything they were involved in, so was Grandpa! John was a
collector of all good things,he liked to go hunting,
snowmobiling,fishing,blue light specials at the mini mall,
4-wheeling, camping and partridge hunting with his grandson Kirk and
Tim in the Fall, old cars, tractors,John liked to tinker at the “Frog
Farm”, he enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins with his son Kevin and
mother-in-law Joyce Lockhart.He enjoyed time spent with his many good
friends and family.He constantly praised and thanked his loving wife
for everything she did. He was so grateful and loved life.
Trusting and obeying God  and putting others before  his needs were
a part of John Wayne’s  daily life.   Blessed be his memory.
 John Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and
Frederick, brothers Teddy Craig, Don and wife Joan Craig, sister’s
Alice Lewing,
Joyce Petrowski, mother and father-in-law Joyce and Edward Lockhart,
brother-in-law Les Lockhart and his wife Marie and their
grandson,Brother-in-law Ernie Boyer,sister-in-law Diane Craig, nephew
Jeff Lockhart, Joan Nesmith cousin through marriage,infant grandbaby
Zachary Pearson.
  He is survived by his siblings Jean Boyer, Carol (Jim)Robberstad,
Gerald Craig, Diane (Tom) Peterson. His loving wife of just about 47
Nancy and children Kevin and Jill (Tim Pearson) and grandkid’s Kirk,
Jacob and Ksana. Brother-in-Law Richard and sister-in-law Elaine
Lockhart, and many niece’s and nephew’s and great niece’s and
nephew’s. Several relatives through marriage.
  Funeral service will be at 2 PM  Wednesday June 18, 2014 at
Bethany Lutheran Church in Williams MN with burial at Pine Hill
Cemetery in Williams with Helguson’s Funeral Chapel  taking care of
