The morning of December 21, 2013, Verle Skaren passed away at Kittson
Memorial Health Care at the age of 94 years.
Verle was born July 11, 1919, at the hospital at Warren, MN to Nels
and Emily (Blomquist) Lindberg. Until school age and older she spent
a lot of time with grandparents Hans and Inga at Warren, MN.
She was baptized Verle Allie Angeline and was confirmed at Red River
Lutheran Church. She met Clarence Skaren and he went to the Navy.
Upon his leave they were married August 2, 1944. He went back to
service and Verle went with him to Norfolk, VA. Upon his release
they lived and farmed south of Drayton, ND.
Clarence passed away in 2004. Verle then moved to Tisdale Manor in
Drayton, then to River’s Edge assisted living in Hallock, MN, then to
the nursing home there. Verle loved her church, sang in the choir,
and taught Sunday School for many years.
She is survived by her sister, Carol Carlson; brother, Charles
(Betty) Lindberg; nieces, Andrae Carlson and Patti (Tom) Gustafson;
great nieces and nephews, Matthew Gustafson, Steven Gustafson, Krista
(Louis) Medina, Molly (Bret) Sobolik, Barb Sharp and family of Texas;
great-great nieces and nephews, Siri and Hannah Medina and Nora and
Blake Sobolik. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents,
brother Carrol and nephew Barry Lindberg.
Funeral services for Verle will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2014
at 11:00 a.m. in the Teien Covenant Church, rural Drayton. A
committal service will be held in the church cemetery at 10:00 a.m.
just prior to the funeral service. Rev. Leroy Aufenkamp, presiding;
Betty Dahl, organist and Mark Tungseth, soloist. The Austin Funeral
Home of Drayton is in charge of arrangements.
