Philip Cassel Peterson, 83

Philip Cassel Peterson, 83, of Hallock, Minnesota, peacefully passed
away at his home on June 16, 2014.

Philip was born on March 29, 1931, in Hallock to Alf and Florence
(Lindahl) Peterson.  He attended the Hallock Public School and
graduated in 1949.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran
Faith at Red River Lutheran Church, and was an active member at Grace
Lutheran Church in Hallock.

On November 22, 1953, Philip was united in marriage to Marlyce Ann
Younggren, at the Northcote, Presbyterian Church.  A year later, he
was drafted into the army and served for two years.  Philip then
attended college in Fargo, ND at NDSU majoring in Vocational
Agriculture and Science.  He spent his first four years of teaching
at the Karlstad Public Schools, then left to work on his masters at
the University of Minnesota.  In 1965, he and Marlyce bought the
family farm and began teaching in the Hallock School system until
retirement in 1994.  Philip enjoyed volunteering his time at both the
Kittson Central School and Grace Lutheran Church, where he taught
confirmation for many years.  He also enjoyed sharing his faith, as
part of, the Peterson-Swanson Family Singers.

Philip is survived by his wife, Marlyce; three daughters, Karen
(Joel) Vold, Hallock, MN, Jillayne (Brian) Kraska, Hallock, MN,
Kimberly (Ryan) Siegmund, Hoschton, GA; nine grandchildren, Michael,
Jaclyn, Jonathan, Desirae, Blaine, Nichole, Blake, Kylie and Téa;
three great-grandchildren, Braeden, Maxx and Zachary; brother, Daniel
(Mary Ellen) Peterson, Spokane, WA; sisters, Violet Dahlgren, New
Brighton, MN, Eunice (Ivan) Folland, Owatonna, MN, Alice Joy Johnson,
Lake Havasu City, AZ, and Diane (Ellsworth) Erickson, North St. Paul,
MN; sisters-in-law, Rose and Janice Younggren of Hallock, MN and many
nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Philip loved spending time with his
family and was most happy when they were all together at the farm.

Philip was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Keith;
brothers, Ray and Delpho; sister, Doris Pieper; in-laws, Edward and
Anna Younggren; brothers-in-law, Harley and Larry Younggren, Verne
Dahlgren, Marshall Johnson, and Richard Peiper; sisters-in-law,
Violet and Phyllis Peterson; and a nephew, Tim Peterson.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 23, 2014 at 11:00 a.m.
at Grace Lutheran Church, Hallock, MN.  Rev. Frank Johnson,
presiding; Renee Wahl, organist. Special music will be provided by
Grace Lutheran Choir and Seed of Faith. Casket bearers will be
Philip’s grandchildren.  Visitation will be held at the church Sunday
night from 6:00-8:00 p.m. with a family service at 7:00 p.m.  Austin
Funeral Chapel, Hallock.
