Bernice Laura (Duray) Borgen, 92

Bernice Laura (Duray) Borgen was born on August 15, 1921 in Redverse, Saskatchewan, Canada to Martin and Agnes (Grittner) Urbanski. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Greenbush and attended country school in Barnett Township. Following school Bernice worked a number of years for area families helping with the children and household duties.  Bernice was united in marriage to Menvil Borgen on June 11, 1940 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Greenbush. They established a home in Barnett Township where  Bernice helped on the farm and was a homemaker until her children were older and then worked off the farm at M & Q’s café, Vi’s café, and the Greenbush Hospital as a nurse’s aide. In 1967 she and Menvil purchased the home built in 1931 by Menvil’s parents. In 1968 Bernice went to work at Polaris Industries where she worked as a seamstress for many years until her retirement. Following her retirement she worked out of her home as a seamstress for a linen company in Thief River Falls, MN. Menvil passed away on October 2, 2007 and Bernice continued to make her home in Greenbush until moving to Elderbush Manor in 2011. Bernice then moved to Oak Crest Senior Living Center in Roseau in May of 2014 where she passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at the age of 92 years.
Bernice was a lifelong member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Greenbush and a longtime member of St. Ann’s Sodality. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, playing cards, canning, and spending time with her family.
Bernice is survived by her 5 daughters;  Marilyn (Dennis) Johnson of Roseau, Ione (Erv) Wicklund of Auburn, WA, Jan Bushie of Seattle, WA, Lyn (Steve) Gillespie of Grand Forks, ND, and Sharlene (John) Boots of Hudson, WI.  2 sons; Larry (Gloria) Borgen of Greenbush, MN, and Ron Borgen of Princeton, MN.  Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, her special niece Mary Joan (Duray) Gerardy, along with many other nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents,  Martin Urbanski, Agnes (Grittner) Duray, Step Father Joe Duray, her husband Menvil, daughter-in-law Diana Borgen, brothers Severyn and Andy Duray,  1 sister Doris Duray, four step-sisters, Victoria, Annie, Adeline,  Rose and one step-brother Romuld.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00AM, Monday, July 07, 2014 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Greenbush with Father Luis Buitron presiding.  Darcy Hasson and Jodi Kirkeidi were the Vocalists and Jeanne Novacek was the Pianist. Eucharistic Ministers were Elinor Koshenina and Marlene Pulczinski and the Reader was Colette Mooney. Mass Servers were Ely and Ethan Novacek and the Gift Bearers were Elinor Koshenina and Loretta Hendrickson. Bernice’s Casket Bearers were her Grandsons Scott and Chad Johnson, Brent and Danny Boots, Derek and Trent Borgen, and Ryan Blazek and her Honorary Bearers were her grandchildren Wade, Kevin, and Todd Wicklund, Staci Wicklund Tongue, Mark Bushie, Tonia Bushie Pullman, Bobbi Lynn McNamara, Cherilyn Blazek Hexum, Troy Borgen, Heidi Borgen Warne, and Lisa Borgen Vacura.
Visitation was held after 6:00 PM, Sunday, at the church with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM and Rosary followed led by St. Ann’s Sodality. Visitation was also held one hour prior to services at the church.
Interment services were held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Cemetery in Greenbush following services.
