O’Neil Norman Larson, 89

O’Neil Norman Larson, the son of the late Hjalmer and Lucille (Flint) Larson, was born on May 3, 1925, in the Klondike area of Kittson Co., near Lake Bronson, MN.  He attended country school near his home and at Halma and later, at Karlstad.  He was baptized and confirmed at the Eidsvold Lutheran Church in Halma.  O’Neil served as a sargent with the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre, Japan and Okinawa from Sept. 1944 until Nov. 1946.  Following discharge from service, he returned to the Halma community and on March 25, 1947, was united in marriage to Eunice Rydberg at Halma.  The couple farmed in Norway Twp., Kittson Co., east of Halma for many years, moving to the Meadows Assisted Living In Karlstad in 2012.  O’Neil was a life-long member of Eidsvold Lutheran Church and a long-time member of the Halma-Lake Bronson American Legion Post #315.  He served on the Kittson Co. Watershed Board for many years, was a member of the N.R.A., served on the Karlstad Elevator Board and the Norway Town Board, as well.  He was an avid fisherman and hunter and hunted deer just this past year.  He was also a gun safety instructor.  O‘Neil spent the past three weeks at the Karlstad Healthcare Center where he passed away on Tues. morning, Aug. 26, 2014, at the age of 89 years, 3 months and 23 days.
   He is survived by his wife, Eunice;  two sons: Terry (Linda), of Palos Verda, Ca and Douglas (Linda), of Stillwater, MN;  6 grandchildren: Joshua, Andrew, Kristen, Brian, Kevin and Pearce;  12 great-grandchildren;  4 sisters: Kathleen Pederson, of Halma, Avis Hagen, of Lake Bronson, Marlys (Earl) Thom, of Cocoa, Fl and Phyllis (Tom) Grundtner, of West St. Paul, MN;  in addition to several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
O’Neil was preceded in death by his parents, step-father: Albert Twistol and two brothers: Delmore Twistol and Roy Larson.
