Bernard M. Miller, 81

Bernard M. Miller, 81, of East Grand Forks, MN died Friday, September 19, 2014 at the Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND due to lengthy battle with diabetes.
Ben was born October 4, 1932 in New Leipzig, ND the son of Joseph and Susan (Phillips) Miller.  He moved to Grand Forks in 1941 graduating from St. James High School in 1950.  He entered the US Army in 1952, and served his county for 13 months in Korea.  He married Geraldine (Gerrie) Pechette in a double wedding ceremony on June 13, 1956.  He attended the University of North Dakota earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1958.  He began his career with the US Army Corps of Engineers working on the second phase of construction of the Garrison Dam in Riverdale, ND.  He later moved to Omaha, and worked for the Iowa Power and Light Company.  His career next took him to Kansas City and then to the Minot AFB and Grand Forks AFB in 1964 where he continued school to become Professional Engineer, where he was Chief of Engineer for the rest of his career. He also owned and operated the Miller True Value Stores and the Hanky Panky Gift Shoppe in Grand Forks.
Ben enjoyed spending time with his family at their cabin at Maple Lake and did a lot of traveling in the winter.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gerrie of East Grand Forks, daughter Joanne of Grand Forks, son John of East Grand Forks, grandchildren, Taylor, Ashley, Josh, Alex and Benny, and 2 brothers, Frank (Phylis) Miller of Grand Forks and Jim Miller of Fargo, ND, and also his canine companion Kaylee.  He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Don, Bill, and twin brother Leonard, and sisters Margaret, Bernice and Irene.
 
Memorial Service:     11:00 A.m., Friday, September 26, 2014 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church 200 3rd St NW, East Grand Forks, MN 56721
 
Visitation: 5:00-7:00 pm, with a Prayer Service at 6:30 pm Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Dahl Funeral Home.
 
Inurnment: Resurrection Cemetery, East Grand Forks, MN.
