Arnold V. McNeal, 89

Arnold V. McNeal, 89 died November 1, 2014 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND with his wife Verna by his side.   Arnold was born on May 8, 1925 in Bemidji, MN, the son of the late Vernon and Christine (Anderson) McNeal.   Arnold graduated from Cloquet High School in 1943 and graduated from Bemidji with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. He served in the US Navy during WWII.  He was united in marriage to Verna Meland on August 27, 1949 at the First Lutheran Church in Bemidji MN, where they lived until moving to Baudette in 1956.  He owned Arnold Department Stores in Roseau and Baudette, MN and retired to winter in Arizona and spent summers in Baudette. 

Arnold is survived by his sisters Laree (Gary) Trollinger of Reading, PA and Inez (Richard) Peterson of Duluth, MN.  His children:  Kristie (Allen) Nesteby of Barrow, AK and Kevin (Marlene) McNeal of Anchorage, AK; six grandchildren, Kevin (Mikki) McNeal, Chad (Serena) Nesteby, Kara McNeal, Kelli McNeal, Andrea Nesteby, Kyle Nesteby; and six great-grandchildren,  Shyanne Lacy, James Lacy Jr, Krystal Dixon, Callista Dixon, Paul Dixon and Leah McNeal. 

Arnold enjoyed fishing at their cabin in Morson, flying his planes and golfing with his family and friends. He enjoyed hunting with his son, Kevin. Arnold was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Baudette MN.  He was also a member of American Legion for over 70 years.  He was a volunteer fireman for over 20 years in Baudette and a volunteer ambulance crew member.  He was a member of the Civil Air Patroland, the Moose Lodge and Masonic Lodge.  He will be remembered for enjoying time with his family and friends at the lake.  He enjoyed traveling to Alaska to visit his children and families.  Arnold will be deeply missed and was loved by his family.

Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Good Samaritan Society at Larimore, ND. Graveside Services at the Elm Park Cemetery in Baudette, MN at noon on Saturday, November 8, 2014.
