Evelyn Mae Arneson

Evelyn Mae Arneson was born to Albert and Viola (Kirby) on May 27, 1931 in Walhalla,
ND. She was raised in the Walhalla area and moved with her family to Pitt in 1947.
She was raised in the Lutheran faith. She finished high school in Baudette,
graduating as one of the ”49ers”. She attended Mayville State Teachers College and
taught at Mountain and Drayton, ND. She fell for the boy next door, and married
James Vondrka on September 5, 1952. They moved to the farm where they raised their
family and she remained until her death.

Evelyn Mae was very active in her community. She took active roles in the Pitt
Community Ladies Aid, Homemakers Club, First Lutheran Ladies Aid, Pitt School, Pitt
Riverside 4-H club, Good-fellowship Club, Pitt PTA, and Lake of the Woods County
Fair. Her sewing, knitting, crocheting and cooking talents were well known by the
whole community.

Jim and Evelyn Mae Vondrka raised 6 children. Arlys (Patrick) Novacek of Roseau,
Marla (Rodney) Hasbargen of Baudette, Nancy (Stanley) Hazelton of Warroad, Rodney
Vondrka of Pitt, Beth (Dave) Dickerson of Booneville, MS, and Brian (Nancy) Vondrka
of Birchdale.

Grand children include: Jason (Holly) Novacek, Kevin Novacek, Lyle (Melody) Otto,
Shayne (Kendra) Otto, Faythe (Charles) Martin, Jeremiah Hodgson, Nickol (Crhistian)
Madariaga, Shawvane (Rachel) Hazelton, Tillie (Dean) Thompson, Nicholas (Amanda)
Hazelton, Rick (Leah) Dickerson, Steven (Alyson) Dickerson, and Christopher
Dickerson. There are 16 great grandchildren.

Evelyn is survived by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sister Lois
(Leonard) Bestrom of Laurel, MT, brother Harris (Delphia) Arneson of Lake Park, MN,
and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her parents, husband in 2004, James, great grandson, Jacob Martin
and great granddaughter Charlie Grace Martin.
