Elaine Tureson, 96

Elaine Tureson, 96, of Hallock, Minnesota passed away at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, rural Fertile, Minnesota on November 27, 2014.Gloria Elaine Tureson was born in Shannon City, Iowa April 29, 1918 to Allan & Winnie (Baker) Madison.  She was the oldest of ten children.  She spent the first few years in Flaxton, ND, moving to Sarles, ND then to Lancaster, MN., graduating there from high school in 1937.  On November 18, 1937 she was married to Eddie Tureson of Hallock.
    Elaine was a very dedicated volunteer; helped with the Hallock Nutrition site for 19 years, then volunteered at Kittson Memorial Nursing Home, delivering popcorn for the Home every week for 30 years.  In 1996 she was chosen as “Kittson County Outstanding Senior Citizen” and attended the MN State Fair.  In 1998, she received the distinguished award of Minnesota Health and Housing Alliance’s statewide “Volunteer/Auxillian of the Year”.  For over 30 years Elaine baked cookies for Kittson Memorial Hospital and Nursing home, retiring at age 90.
Elaine loved to bake cookies, bread and buns, canning jelly and sharing them with others. She enjoyed tending to her flower and vegetable gardens and feeding her birds.  She enjoyed playing bingo at the Hallock Senior Center, playing cards, especially cribbage with her grandsons, playing scrabble with her dear friend Ruby Sorenson, playing dominoes and keeping in touch with friends and family by emailing and keeping up to date on her laptop.  She had a passion for quilting and was currently working on her 443rd quilt.  She loved staying in her own home, the house that she and Eddie built and entertaining family and friends.
Elaine was committed to being a prayer warrior and dearly loved her church family.  She felt honored to be grandma to so many, especially her adoptive grandson, Reese Steen.  She also considered Deb Finney & Carole Nord Lage as her daughters and the Greg & Sandy Wilson family as her own.
She is survived by sons Allan (Jeannie) of Portland, Texas, Larry (Diane) of Duluth, MN, James (Judy) of Jeffersonville, IN, daughter Betty (Steve) Ness of Erskine, MN.  Also surviving are 13 grandkids and 24 great grandkids along with sisters, Louvic Mattson & Marge Madison of Roseau, MN and brother, Mike (Marie) Madison of Lakeland, FL., several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter, husband Eddie in 1976, siblings, Don, Hartley, Irwin, Verna, Emily and an infant sister.
    Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, December 5, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in Lancaster Covenant Church.  Interment will be held in the spring.  Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the funeral service.
    In lieu of flowers, Elaine had requested that memorials be directed to the Lancaster Covenant Good News Youth Group, The Gideon’s or to a charity of your choice.
