Duane Ellsworth Lindberg, 96, of Baudette, Minnesota died on Tuesday December 9, 2014 at the LakeWood Health Center in Baudette.
Duane Lindberg was born June 18, 1918 at home in Svea Township, Kittson County, Minnesota, the son of Henry Gottfried Lindberg and Esther J. Dahl Lindberg. He graduated from Kennedy High School, attended Aaker’s Business College in Grand Forks, ND and the University of Minnesota at Crookston, MN. He then worked in the Stephen State Bank during which time he met Gwen Antonius of Warren, MN. He worked assembling military aircraft in California in 1942, then enlisted in the US Army Air Corps in 1943. He was honorably discharged after almost losing his life to meningitis.
On September 17, 1944 he married Gwen Antonius. They moved to the family farm west of Kennedy, MN in Kittson County. He farmed there for almost 30 years. After retirement he and Gwen traveled throughout the world and spent winters in Winter Haven, Florida. He loved traveling, hunting, fishing, and boating. He was a talented mechanic, and loved to build and fix things.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters Erlyce, Jean, and Joan, his wife Gwen of 67 years, and his grandson Andrew Lindberg. He is survived by daughter Susan (Robert) Griggs, son William (“Charlie”) Lindberg, grandsons Tom (Ana Maria Orduz Espinal) and David (Amy Elizabeth Bauch) Griggs and John (Angela Haukebo) Lindberg, grand daughter-in-law Kathryn Lindberg, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held at Wabanica Lutheran Church northwest of Baudette on December 20 at 11 AM with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service and a luncheon to follow. Interment will take place at the Kennedy Cemetery in Kennedy, MN at a future date.
