Glenn O. Rasmussen, 91

Glenn O. Rasmussen, 91, of Manchester, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, January 16, 2015, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester.

Glenn Orlean Rasmussen was born November 2, 1923, at home, near Strandquist, Minnesota, the son of, George and Olga (Vagle) Rasmussen.  Glenn attended school in Strandquist, Minnesota.

On January 3, 1959, Glenn was united in marriage to Audrey Clow in St. Vincent, Minnesota.  One child was blessed to this union.

They lived near Strandquist, Minnesota until August 1966 and moved to Frazee, Minnesota for two years.  In 1969 they moved to Walker, Minnesota and lived there for thirty-nine years on beautiful Leech Lake.

In his teens, Glenn worked for a large potato grower in the Red River Valley for several years.  In his early twenties he started raising turkeys and did so until he retired in 1988.  He and his wife and son, John, who was born in 1961, raised the birds with little outside help.

Glenn belonged to the Minnesota Turkey Growers Association and attended their conventions in Minneapolis when he was able.

His hobbies were gardening, cutting firewood, woodworking, and raising turkeys.  He grew a lot of potatoes and gave away many.  He didn’t start woodworking, mainly making furniture, until he had retired.

He was very proud of his Scandinavian heritage, and in 2000, had the opportunity to see the area in Denmark where his Grandpa Rasmussen grew up and, on the way to Norway, where his mother’s parents were from.

In 2008 Glenn and Audrey decided to move to Manchester to be near their son and family.  This ended their many 430 mile trips to Manchester.

Glenn was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Walker, Minnesota.  He mowed the church lawn for many years and was a faithful member.  He read his Bible daily.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Audrey of Manchester; his son, John (Lynne) Rasmussen of Manchester; a grandson, Tyler Rasmussen of Waterloo, a granddaughter, Jaimie Rasmussen of Stillwater, Minnesota; three brothers, Virgil (Ruth) Rasmussen of Cloquet, Minnesota ; Verne (Sharon) Rasmussen of Frazee, Minnesota;                     Allen (Gail) Rasmussen of International Falls, Minnesota;  two sisters, LouAnn Grandstrand of Cloquet, Minnesota ; Carol (Don) Gossenberger of Mission Viejo, California; sister-in-law, Betty (Rod) Dunn of Orr, Minnesota; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
