Dorothy Gustafson, 95

Dorothy Gustafson, 95, of Hallock, Minnesota passed away at Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock on Thursday, February 5th, 2015.  Dorothy was born in Rosby, Minnesota on November 8, 1919 to Minnie (Holen) and Lloyd Drake.  Lloyd was a section foreman for the Great Northern and moved the family many times until Dorothy was in 8th grade.  She has made Hallock her home since then.  Dorothy graduated from high school in 1937.  After graduation she attended Bemidji State Teachers College (as it was known then). On graduation she accepted a teaching position at the Grasshopper School.  She stayed at Oscar Gustafson’s where she met her janitor and husband, Delbert.  Later Delbert was drafted into service and they were married February 4, 1943.  After the war they made their home in Hallock.  Dorothy returned to teaching in Kennedy from 1961-1967 and Hallock from 1967-1975 when Delbert decided they should do a little traveling.  They went on several trips with siblings and friends.  Dorothy belonged to Grace Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. and the American Legion Auxiliary.  She enjoyed playing bridge.  Dorothy’s health started to decline and in August of 2011 she moved to Assisted Living in Hallock.  Her health continued to decline and in May of 2013 she moved to the nursing home where she was lovingly taken care of until her death.
    She had four children; Pam (John) Anderson, Hallock, Penny (Gaylen) Ghylin, Edina, MN, Tom (Patti) Gustafson, Hallock and Patti (Daryll) Ledin, New Brighten, MN; eleven grandchildren, Jodell, J.T., Joel, Trina, Tami, Matt, Steve, Krista, Molly, Nick and Katie; seventeen great grandchildren, Megan, Kate, Kaela, Beth, Zachary, Cameron, Kinley, Jack, Levi, Siri, Brody, Isla, Ava, Drew, Hannah, Nora and Blake; a brother, Leonard (Alice) Drake, Starbuck, MN and sisters-in-law, Carol Drake, St. Louis Park, MN and Lue Gustafson, Hallock; brothers-in-law, Al and Jim, Hallock and Watt in California.  Preceding her in death were her mother and father, husband, Delbert, sisters, Lue and Myrtle, brothers, Ray, Jack and Roy; sisters-in-law, Janyce, Harriet, Sylvia and Frances; and brothers-in-law, Lyndon and Lionel.
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, February 9, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in Grace Lutheran Church, Hallock.  Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.   Rev. Frank Johnson, presiding; special music will be provided by Renee Wahl.  Casket bearers will be Dorothy’s grandchildren.  Remembrance, Dorothy’s granddaughter, Trina.  Visitation will be held at Austin Funeral Chapel in Hallock on Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
