Marlys Joy Carlson (Danielson) 78

Carlson, Marlys Joy (Danielson)
Age 78, of Hallock, went home to be with Jesus on February 19, 2015. Marlys was born at home in Minneapolis, MN on December 14, 1936 and accepted Jesus Christ into her heart as a young girl at First Covenant Church. After graduating from Central High School in Minneapolis, Marlys went to work for Harold’s department store and was known and welcomed by many hundreds of Harold’s employees and customers. While she was a “city girl” she spent every summer growing up on her uncle Clarence V.A. Johnson’s farm, 5 miles east of Kennedy. All the while, Marlys “longed” for Kittson County in a place where “everyone knows your name.” She was one of the first to run a “personal” ad in a newspaper (North Star News) inviting an eligible man with similar interest to meet. Through that ad, Marlys found the love of her life in Franklin Leonard Carlson.
Together, they had fun dressing up as “Lena and Ole,”fooling people in Kennedy who did not recognize them and going to Hallock high school hockey games, traveling with the team. Marlys loved to paint rural scenes she found in Kittson county. Marlys was also a correspondent for the North Star News writing about people and events of interest around Kennedy.
Marlys loved her family, always was clear in her opinions (never afraid to “stir the pot”) and totally loyal to her family and friends. In the early years, Marlys and Franklin resided in Kennedy and in later years have lived in Hallock.
