Adele P. Driscoll, 91, of Grand Forks, ND passed away on Friday, March 27, 2015, in Grand Forks, ND after a brief illness. All her children were able to be with her.
Adele was born on September 1, 1923 in Brooklyn, New York the daughter of Joseph and Helena (Lucia Bogucka) Chwirut. Each parent had immigrated to the United State from Poland as a young teenager. She grew up in Brooklyn and graduated from the all-girls Bay Ridge PS 102 High School. She graduated from Washington Business College in 1942 and did secretarial work for several Manhattan businesses: Burrelle’s Press Clipping Bureau, the Swan-Finch Oil Co., Shawinigan Products Corp (located in the Empire State Building) and the Crosley Public Opinion Polls (a pioneer of modern polling). She was a Canteen volunteer, which provided USO-like entertainment for WWII troops. There she met and subsequently married Raymond Driscoll on February 8, 1948 at Our Lady of Angels Church in Brooklyn. They moved to East Grand Forks where they farmed their entire lives. They also enjoyed 20 years of winter vacations in Florida and Mexico. She enjoyed gardening, word games and puns, writing poetry and changing song lyrics, and collecting antique oriental china. Adele was a member of a Confraternity of Christian Doctrine Study Group and a founding member of the Tanzer Dance Club. She loved to sing and was a member of Euterpe. Adele and Ray visited the Great Wall of China, the pyramids, the Holy Land, and extensively traveled in the US and Mexico. Even though she had life-long health issues, she swam with the Rusty Hinges exercise group until she was 90 and maintained her home and garden until her recent illness.
Adele is survived by her sons, Kevin Driscoll, Maple Grove, MN; Randall (Cindy) Driscoll and Bruce (Cynthia) Driscoll, all of East Grand Forks, MN; Blane (Karen) Driscoll, Dassel, MN; daughter, Meredith (Glenn) Faken, Greer, SC; grandchildren, Cody and Shyanne Driscoll, East Grand Forks MN, Glenn Raymond Faken, Greer, SC, Anna Christian Otsego MN, Laura Udell, Edina MN; and Brandon Lealos, Fargo ND; and great-grandchildren, Castle and Cainan Christian, and Ava (Udell) Harris.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Driscoll, parents, and brother Theodore.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to the donor’s choice.
Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, East Grand Forks, MN.
Visitation: 1 hour before services at the church.
Interment: Resurrection Cemetery, East Grand Forks, MN.
