Viola Lucille Rud, age 86 of East Grand Forks, MN passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the Valley Elder Care Transitional Unit in Grand Forks, ND.
Viola Lucille (Williamson) Rud was born on March 7, 1929 near Baker, MT, the daughter of Presley and Elnora (Noftsker) Williamson. The family moved to Minnesota Lake, MN in 1933 and then Frost, MN in 1944 where she graduated high school.
Viola attended the Swedish Hospital School of Nursing where she earned her degree as a Registered Nurse. She then attended the University Of Minnesota School Of Public Health and earned her certificate in Public Health Nursing (1950). She worked as a Pediatric Staff Nurse at the University of Minnesota. In 1951, Viola was hired as the County Nurse in Marshall County, Minnesota. On June 28, 1952 she was united in marriage to Arthur D. Rud. Viola then worked as a nurse in various settings as Art completed service in the Air Force. Viola and Art returned to Warren in 1956, moved to the Rud family farm in 1957, and built a new home in Newfolden, MN in 1962. While caring for her family, Viola worked as County Nurse for Marshall County (1960-1967), and as the Public Health Nurse for Northwest Community Action, Badger, MN (1971-1972). From 1972 to 1981 she was the Director for the Marshall County Nursing Service. In 1978, Viola became the first director of Quin County Health Services (Kittson, Marshall, Pennington, Red Lake and Roseau Counties, now known as Quin Community Health Services); in 1987, she received an Award of Recognition from the State Community Health Services (CHS) Advisory Committee. Viola served on various community health boards and groups. On November 23, 1990, after 25 years as a Public Health Nurse, including 13 years as a CHS Administrator, Viola retired.
Viola was very active throughout her life. She was a devoted wife and mother, gardener, Sunday School Teacher, Church Council Member, ALCW Leader, and Girl Scout Leader. She enjoyed reading, arts and crafts, fishing, camping, and her grandchildren!
Viola and Art enjoyed winters in Arizona until 2011. Since 2006, Viola and Art have lived in East Grand Forks where they were members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Viola was devoted to God, Family, Friends, Church, and Community. She will be deeply missed.
Family members of Viola include her children, Renee Mabey of East Grand Forks, MN, Keith (Marty) Rud of Newfolden, MN, and Brian Rud of Mankato, MN; grandchildren, Steven (Liz) Rud of Casper, WY, Melinda (Kurt) Larson of Moorhead, MN, Janna (Dane) Crossley of Corinth, TX, Sarah Mabey of East Grand Forks, MN, and JonathanLi Rud of Mankato, MN; great-grandson, Radin Rud; siblings, Helen Routier of International Falls, MN, Walter Williamson of Cypress, TX and David Williamson of Belton, TX along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Arthur Rud on July 5, 2014, and an infant son Steven Craig Rud.
Funeral Service: 10:30 AM on Monday, May 25, 2015 in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 1515 5th Ave. NW, East Grand Forks, MN.
Visitation: 4:00 to 6:00 with a 5:30 PM Prayer Service on Sunday, May 24, 2015 in Dahl Funeral Home, 2029 Central Ave. NW, East Grand Forks, MN and one hour prior Funeral Service on Monday in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church
Interment: Oak Grove Cemetery ~ Newfolden, MN
