Julia V. Wood, 95

Julia V. Wood, age 95, of East Grand Forks, MN passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at Valley Eldercare in Grand Forks, ND.

Julia was born on April 11, 1920 in Fosston, MN to the late Magness and Guru Bertina (Smette) Gunderson.  She grew up and attended school in Fosston, MN.  She was married to Ole C. Gunderson on March 9, 1940 in Cummings, ND.  They lived and farmed in the Cummings area until Ole’s death on August 29, 1957.  Julia and her children moved to Grand Forks in 1959.  She worked for many years at Grossman’s Cleaners as a presser.  She was then married to Olaf  Wood on July 29, 1961.  They lived in East Grand Forks, MN and most recently Tufte Manor, Grand Forks, ND.    Julia enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, making lefsa, sewing and dancing.

Julia is survived by one son Omer (Adeline) Gunderson of Cummings, ND; stepson, Richard Wood of Grand Forks, ND, 4 grandchildren; Jon Gunderson, Jason Gunderson, Kevin Ayotte and Susan (Michael) Hendrickson, great grandchildren, Brandon and Dylon Gunderson, Ashley and Zachery Ayotte and Mason and Carson Hendrickson, sister, Thelma (Archie) Rinkenberger of Fosston, MN, son-in-law Francis Ayotte, of East Grand Forks and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ole Gunderson and Olaf Wood; her parents, daughter Betty Ayotte, 3 brothers, Clarence, George and Melfred “Fred” Gunderson and 3 sisters, Myrtle Finneseth, Gladys Melby and Martha Tharaldson.

Funeral Service:  2:00 PM Friday, June 3, 2015 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, East Grand Forks, MN. 

Visitation: 1 hour before services at the church. 

Interment:  10:30 Saturday, June 4, 2015 at the Highland Lutheran Cemetery, Cummings, ND.
