Charles E. Gilleland, 87

Charles E. Gilleland, age 87, of Staples, MN, formerly of East Grand Forks, MN passed away on Monday, June 8, 2015 at the Veteran’s Hospital in St. Cloud, MN.

Charles Gilleland was born January 23, 1928 in Grand Forks, ND the son of Charles and Myrtle (Olson) Gilleland.  He grew up in East Grand Forks and attended East grand Forks Central High School.  He enlisted in the US Army on April 25, 1946, serving during WWII in the Medical Corps.  He married June Boushee on June 8, 1948 in Grand Forks.  He farmed and worked as a welder / pipefitter, and also worked with his brother.  They made their home in East Grand Forks until 1988 when they moved to St. Cloud and then to Staples, MN.  In his retirement he raised New Zealand Red Deer and restored antique vehicles.

He is survived by children: Charles “Chuck” (Jane), Horace, ND, Duane (Karen), St. Cloud, MN, Mary (Frank) Ringstad, East Grand Forks, MN and Lois (Don) Robinson, St. Cloud, MN; 2 brothers Robert “Lefty” Gilleland, of East Grand Forks, and Fred LaCasse of Healdsburg, CA, ten grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife June on July 7, 2008, and beloved son Larry Gilleland on June 30, 2000.

Funeral Service:   11:00 AM, Thursday, June 11, 2015 at the Dahl Funeral Home, East Grand Forks, MN.

Visitation:   1 hour before services at the Dahl Funeral Home, East Grand Forks, MN.

Interment:  Resurrection Cemetery, East Grand Forks, MN.
