Darlene A. Gust, 85

Darlene A. Gust, 85, of East Grand Forks, MN, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at Valley Eldercare in Grand Forks, ND.

Darlene was born on January 14, 1930 in Ada, MN to the late Ernest and Agnes (Vonesh) Holtman.  As a child she moved to East Grand Forks, MN.  On September 24, 1947 she was united in marriage to Louis Gust at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in East Grand Forks, MN.  Over the years she and Louis had business interests that included cafes and auto shops.  She also worked in potato harvesting until she started working for Old Dutch Foods where she stayed for over 25 years on the production line.  After her retirement she became involved with the Ladies Guild at Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she was a member for many years.  Darlene also had a keen interest in embroidery and crocheting and for many years she was a member of the Arts and Crafts Club and a member of their council.  She was a fabulous cook and truly enjoyed putting on a meal, whether it was for a holiday or just a gathering of friends and family; large or small she handled it all.  In her later years, she enjoyed getting together with her lady friends to play cards, socialize, and get together for dinners or lunch.

Darlene is survived by her longtime friend Joyce Piker of East Grand Forks, MN; her children, Vernon (Ruby) Gust, Sr., of East Grand Forks, MN; Carol (Bob) Durbin of Mentor, MN; LuAnn Storbakken of Grand Forks, ND; Patty (Duane) Goetz of Grand Forks, ND; 17 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Louis Gust; brothers, Wes and Ernest Holtman, Jr.; and sister, Claire Velaski.
