Marie Elsie (Saure) Hagen, age 87, of East Grand Forks, MN, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at the Villa St. Vincent in Crookston, MN.
Marie was born on February 10, 1928 to the late Einar and Borghild (Haugen) Saure. She was raised on the family farm northeast of Reynolds, ND and graduated as Valedictorian of Reynolds High School in 1946. She worked on the family farm and at the Farmers Elevator in Reynolds, ND, as well as for a short time at Red River Produce with her sister, Ethel. She attended Aaker’s Business College but her dad asked her to come home to care for her ailing mother. She did that for nearly 7 years and it was in this time that she met Clifford Hagen. They were united in marriage on Thursday, June 25, 1952, the same anniversary as her parents, in St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Reynolds, ND; where Marie had also been baptized and confirmed. They then moved to East Grand Forks, MN and raised their family on Cliff’s family farm where she was a devoted farmer’s wife and mother.
Marie was a devout Greenwave supporter and bled green when her children were in school but became a Crookston Pirate Booster cheering for her grandchildren. Her favorite pastime was attending her grandkids various athletic and musical activities. Additionally she loved watching General Hospital and women’s volleyball and softball on television as well as making ceramics. She and Cliff loved to travel and wintered in Arizona in their retirement. She was also a prodigious note taker with notes being found for gifts her children received when they were young.
Marie is survived by her 4 children, Roger (Roxanne) Hagen of East Grand Forks, MN; Rodney (Lydie) Hagen of Alpharetta, GA; Janice Rost of St. Louis Park, MN; and Judie (Erik) Kanten of Crookston, MN; 6 grandchildren, Nick (Molly) Hagen, Anna Hagen, Emily (Alex) Ranz, and Sarah, Mollie, and Rachel Kanten; brother, Ordean Saure; sister, Ethel Ramstad; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 47 years, Cliff on August 11, 1999; and brother, Gordon Saure.
