Audrey Joan Johnson, 82, of Hallock passed away June 26, 2015 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Audrey’s devotion to her family and firm belief in God supported her through this difficult time.
WWAudrey was born on July 25, 1932 to Cora and Olaf Hanson of Kennedy, MN. She grew up in the Hallock area and graduated from Hallock High School in 1950. After graduation, she married Roy Johnson. They lived in rural Lancaster and later moved to the city of Hallock. Together, they had four daughters. Roy was killed in an accident in 1979 while working for the state highway department. Audrey remarried Herbert Johnson in 1981 and lived west of Hallock until Herb’s death on May 18, 2000.
Audrey, along with Florence Hagen, spent 30 years operating the coffee shop at the Kittson County Courthouse, where they served politicians, inmates, county employees and the public. Audrey loved to cook and bake and was always sharing a loaf of banana bread with whomever stopped by. Audrey was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church until moving to Karlstad. She loved the senior center in Hallock and missed the daily dinners and fellowship.
After encountering health issues, Audrey moved to the Meadows Assisted Living in Karlstad, MN, where she made many new friends with the residents, as well as the wonderful staff. She also cherished the nurses at the Thief River Falls dialysis unit. Audrey loved her annual trips to Las Vegas and had just booked one for October.
Audrey also enjoyed her time with Craig Pearson, and we thank him for his continued devotion to her. They made many trips to Thief River and Craig kept Audrey up on the Hallock news.
Mom’s special friend, Peter Olson, was also a big help to her during her trips to dialysis. Not sure we could have done it without him!
Audrey is survived by four daughters; Cheryl (Jess) Jensen of Moorhead, MN; Susan (Steve) Andersen and Jan (Mark) Berg, both of Karlstad, MN, and Cynthia (Virgil) Beaver of Wright, WY. Two stepsons; Lowell (GiGi) Johnson of Long Beach, CA and Gary (Carol) Johnson of Hallock, MN. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Grace Lutheran Church of Hallock, MN. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. in the Austin Funeral Home at Hallock. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery following the service.
