Robert M. Siems, age 92 of Bemidji, MN died Saturday April 18th 2015 after a brief illness at Neilson Place, Bemidji MN.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 25th 2015 at 11:00 am at New Salem Lutheran Church, Turtle River MN. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service at the church with a lunch and fellowship to follow. Inurnment will in the Pine Ridge Cemetery in Turtle River, MN.
Robert was born July 27th 1922 in Thief River Falls, MN the son of Walter R. and Stella A. (Kafka) Siems. As a small child his family moved to Graceton, MN where his father owned the bank in Williams MN as well as running the family farm. Robert attended school in Williams MN graduating in 1940.
December 10th, 1942 Robert enlisted in US Army Medical Corp. After receiving training as a lab tech, Robert was sent overseas to England and then followed the troops through France and into Germany until Germany’s surrender. He then was sent to the South Pacific where he went through the Philippines and into Japan. He was honorably discharged February 14th 1946 at the rank of Technician Third Grade.
After returning state side Robert attended Bemidji State College studying Business and played hockey for the Bemidji Beavers. He transferred his senior year and finished his degree in Accounting at French’s Business College where he met and later married his wife of 65 years.
Robert was married to Ladora I. Wold, June 19th 1949 at Salem Lutheran Church in Turtle River MN. Together they built their home and lived on Fox Lake the majority of their marriage. For over thirty years Robert was a traveling auditor for the Solar Gas Corporation serving a 5 state area. He retired in 1985. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, home projects and practical jokes. He was a avid reader, enjoyed following all the local sport teams and was a life time member of the VFW.
He is survived by his three sons, Robert Michael (Noralee) Siems, William (Tina) Siems and Jay Siems all of Bemidji MN. Four grandchildren, Robert Matthew (Kelly) Siems, Bemidji MN, Sharon (Anthony) Carr, Centenial CO, Rachel Siems Bemidji, MN and Melissa (Christopher) Vasek, Bemidji MN. Three great grandsons and one great granddaughter. Two sister in laws, Betty Siems, Cambridge MN and Joyce Siems, Columbia Falls MT.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ladora, brothers, Walter R. Siems Jr and James Siems, and a sister Marilyn Northcott and brother in law, Jack Northcott
Arrangements were entrusted to the Olson Schwartz Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Bemidji MN.
