Marie A. Babinski, 83

Marie A. Babinski, age 83 of Grand Forks, ND, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2015 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.

Marie Ann Babinski was born on October 3, 1931 in Wales, ND the daughter of Aloysius and Beatrice (Ohlheiser) Messner.  Marie grew up in Wales, ND and attended school in Hannah, ND where she graduated from Hannah High School with the Class of 1949 as Valedictorian.   Following her high school graduation, she attended Valley City Teachers College.  Marie taught school in rural Wales and Oakwood.  She completed her teaching career at Milton school.  On November 25, 1954 she was united in marriage to Francis Babinski in St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Wales, ND.  They farmed in Ardoch and Wales, ND where her family farm was located.  In 1962 they moved to Grand Forks, ND from Wales where they lived until 1965. They resided in East Grand Forks, MN from 1965 to 1992 when they moved back to Grand Forks.  In 1973 she began employment at United Hospital as a pharmacy technician retiring in 1993.  Marie worked for American Crystal Sugar Company in East Grand Forks during campaigns in the tare lab for over forty plus years.   She was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Auxiliary #350 of East Grand Forks and District 2 of Minnesota. She served as President of the district and local auxiliaries. She was currently serving as treasurer of the Auxiliary #350.  She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, of 60 years, Francis of Grand Forks, ND; children (7), Jean (James) Marynik of Littlefork, MN, David (Lorri) Babinski of Phoenix, AZ, Michael (Debbie) Babinski of Devils, Lake, ND, Carol (Marvin) Yonke of Thief River Falls, MN, Patrick (Lili) Babinski of Grand Rapids, MN, Mary (Gary) Jeffrey of Marysville, WA and Nancy (Jon) Wangsnes of Prior Lake, MN; eighteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren; three sisters, Beatrice Delvo of Langdon, ND, Lillian (Leo) Bittner of Devils Lake, ND, Viola (Dennis) Brown of Langdon, ND and one brother, Richard Messner of Langdon, ND along with many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Ardella Anderson, Helen Nagle and one brother, Joseph Messner.

Funeral Service:  11:00 AM on Saturday, August 1, 2015 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 216 Belmont Road, Grand Forks, ND.


Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00 PM with and a 6:30 PM Prayer Service on Friday, July 31, 2015 in Dahl Funeral Home, 2029 Central Ave. NW, East Grand Forks, MN and visitation will continue also one hour prior Funeral Liturgy on Saturday in St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Interment:  Calvary Cemetery ~ Grand Forks, ND
