Delbert H. Peterson, 88

Delbert H. Peterson, 88, a lifelong Lancaster area farmer, passed away at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks on Thursday, July 30th, 2015. Delbert was born on the family farm in Orleans, Minnesota on January 17, 1927, the son of Albert and Ellen (Hanson) Peterson. He grew up on the family farm in Richardville Township and lived his entire life there. Delbert enjoyed sports and played basketball and baseball at Lancaster High School, graduating in 1947. On June 12, 1951 he married Doris Johnson in Kennedy, Minnesota. The couple farmed in Richardville Township and raised a daughter, Marla and a son, Jerroll in the very home where Delbert was born. Doris passed away on November 13, 1998. Delbert was a member of Sion Lutheran Church and served as a board member of Richardville Township for many years. Delbert’s farm received a Centennial Farm Designation and he was named Kittson County Farmer of the Year. Delbert was a loving father and grandfather who built forts, playhouses and many other items for his family. He enjoyed hunting fishing and trapping. Delbert often talked about the adventures he and his brother Marvin had following the trap line.
Family members include a son, Jerroll (Diane) Peterson, Lancaster; a daughter, Marla (Rick) Failing, West Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Del (Melissa) Peterson , Dawn (Jon) Miller, Christopher (Rachel) Failing; Jarrett (Katie) Failing and Camelia Failing; great grandchildren, Lydia, Isaac, Levi, Kasen and Declan; a brother, Marvin (Leni) Peterson, Mexico City, Mexico; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris; brothers, Clifford and Harold and a sister, Ethel Glad.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, August 1, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at the Lancaster Covenant Church, Lancaster, Minnesota. Interment will be at the Riverview Memorial Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the funeral service. Rev. Galen Nordin, presiding; Julie Nordin, organist and Galen Nordin, soloist.
