Margaret Jean Westover, formally of Sioux Narrows, Ontario, passed away August 12, 2015, at the Rainy River Care Center. She was born July 27, 1927, to Roy and Edna (nee Meyers) Westover in Barwick, Ontario, Canada.
One of ten children, she grew up on a farm where she learned to love animals, but not farming. Instead, she chose to become a beautician and worked in Fort Frances, Thunder Bay, and Sioux Narrows. She was known for her perfect hair-do and stylish clothes. She was also very crafty and generous with her many talents, often doing hair for senior ladies, etc.
Marg was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Don (Jessie), Billy, Roy, Ron, Fred, and Jim; sisters: Helen (Irwin) Pretty, and Iva Nugent-Olson (Erling) and sister-in-law Ann Westover. She is survived by her brother Milt Westover and sisters-in-law Marg Westover and Donna Westover.
While Auntie Marg had no children of her own, she leaves many nieces and nephews with fond memories of being thrown in the lake and listening to her witty remarks. She was an out-spoken woman who enjoyed dancing and living life to the fullest. In her younger years, she spent many summers working at Plummer’s Great Bear Lake Lodge, above the Arctic Circle.
She and Warren Plummer traveled the world and spent most of their winters in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. In later years she spent her winters in Brandon, Florida, but she always returned to Sioux Narrows for the summer.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, 1 PM, at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, Ontario. Burial will be in Barwick with lunch to follow. Pall Bearers will be Leland Westover, Brent Westover, Tim Olson, Cliff Westover, Larry Fadden and Chris Fadden.
