Lorne Spilde, 75

Lorne Spilde, 75 a lifelong Halma, Minnesota resident passed away at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota on Thursday, September 9, 2015.  Lorne Harley Spilde was born October 22, 1939 in Greenbush, Minnesota to Leonard and Helen (Oien) Spilde.  He was baptized at Edisvold Lutheran Church and confirmed there in 1954.  Lorne attended elementary school in Halma and was a 1957 graduate of Karlstad High School where he lettered in three sports.  After completing his education he farmed with his father on their dairy farm. In addition to farming Lorne worked for Grant Bothum Farms, Hallet Construction and was on the crew that built the American Crystal Plant in Drayton, North Dakota.  In 1968 Lorne took over the dairy farm after his father’s death.  On September 5, 1969 he married Julie Spilde at Eidsvold Lutheran Church.  They raised a daughter and four sons in the very house Lorne himself grew up in.  Lorne and Julie continued with the dairy farm until 1985 when they changed over to a beef cow and calf operation.  They actively farmed until 2014 when they sold the cattle.  Lorne especially enjoyed all the sports and activities his children and grandchildren were involved in. He was a big Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings fan as well.  Lorne loved the farm and dancing with his beloved wife, Julie.  They had just celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary.
Family members include his wife, Julie; a daughter, Lori, Duluth, MN; four sons, Chad (Toni), Halma, Sean (Jodi) Karlstad, MN, Curt (Beth), Roseau, MN and Tryg (Kayla), East Grand Forks, MN; 16 grandchildren, Ella and Erin Greenwalt, Steele, Stoene, Straet and Scout Spilde, Jaren, Jailyn, Jade, Jackson and Jaacks Spilde, Taylor, Paetyn and Braxton Spilde, Kelsey and Hunter Spilde; a sister, Joydis (Lee) Folland, Halma, mother-in-law, Lela Spilde, Halma; sisters-in-law, Peggy Porter and Marcia Spilde Heath; three brothers-in-law, Glen, Dean and Peder Spilde; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Tilden and sister-in-law, Shirley; and  brothers-in-law, Gary Porter and Gene Votava.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in Eidsvold Lutheran Church, Halma.  Interment will be in Eidsvold Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the church on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.  Rev. Ken Bowman, presiding; Lori Spilde, soloist and Kirstin Olson, organist.  Casket bearers will be Lorne’s grandchildren.  The Austin Funeral Home of Hallock is in charge of arrangements.
