Mae Glad passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at the Kittson Memorial Nursing Home in Hallock MN. Mae Evelyn Ryden was born November 22, 1923 in Hallock to Oscar and Christina (Ekensteen) Ryden. She was the eighth of nine children. She was baptized in the Lutheran Church of Hallock. The family moved to Phoenix in October 1929. She was confirmed in 1937 at Grace Lutheran Church in Phoenix. She attended school in Phoenix and graduated in 1942. Mae worked as a bookkeeper in the Trust Department of Valley National Bank for two years. She met her future husband Warren Glad of Lancaster in 1942 while he was stationed at Williams Air Field in Phoenix. They were married following his discharge, March 9, 1946. They moved back to Lancaster where they owned and operated Glad’s Store until 1976.
Mae was Secretary of the American Legion Auxiliary, a member of the Lancaster Business Association and a member of Sion Lutheran Church where she served as Sunday School Superintendent for 21 years, she was Church Financial Secretary and a member of WELCA. Mae was an avid golfer and sponsored a bowling team in Lake Bronson. Her hobbies were gardening, sewing, oil painting, needlework, loved doing crafts with her daughters and baking with her great grandchildren. She often had Kool Aid and cookie parties for her grandchildren and the neighborhood kids, where she was known as Grandma Mae to everyone. But her true passions were her family, her church and her community, where she will be dearly missed.
Mae’s health started to decline and in May of 2011 she moved to the Kittson Memorial Nursing Home in Hallock were she was lovingly taken care of until her death. She is survived by her Daughters; Dianne (Gary) Rice and Marilyn (Bruce) Gustafson of Lancaster, Grandsons; Steven Rice, Lancaster and Brad (Becky) Rice, Valley Center CA; Great Grand Children; Courtney, Lynnaea, Nathan, Shelby, Maggie, Jacob and Emily Mae, Brother Jim (Ruth) Ryden, Payson AZ and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her Parents; Husband; Warren and Brothers; Glenn, Jack, Roy, Fred, David and Sisters; Edna and Elda.
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, September 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in Sion Lutheran Church, Lancaster. Interment will be in Riverview Memorial Garden Cemetery, Lancaster. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the funeral service. Rev. Melodi Hagen, presiding; Jacki Przekwas, organist; Don and Kris Thorlacius, duet. Honorary casket bearers will be Mae’s grandchildren and great grandchildren.
