Marta Heggedal of Badger, MN passed away on October 16, 2015 at the LifeCare Greenbush Manor at the age of 92.

Marta (Isane) was born on March 25, 1923 at Isane, Nordfjord, Norway to Sigurd and Anna Isane.  She was raised and attended school there and later attended trade school for sewing and knitting. In 1948 Marta and Per were married in Davik, Nordfjord, Norway.  They immigrated to the U.S. in 1950. Per soon found carpentry work in Rapid City, South Dakota. Over the next 16 years, Marta and Per alternated farming in Badger, MN with building homes in Rapid City. Per and Marta proudly received their US citizenship in 1963. 1966 found the Heggedal’s back in Roseau County for good at the farm in Nereson Township. They lived on the farm until 1999, when they moved to Stokes Township during their retirement.  The last year, she has resided at the Greenbush Manor.

Marta and Per had many trips back to Norway to visit family and welcomed many relatives to their home as well.  Marta was known for her knitting of Norwegian sweaters. She traveled to the HostFest in Minot, North Dakota for 16 years where Marta & Dagrun’s booth received the Outstanding Workmanship Award. In addition to knitting, Marta loved to sew, crochet, and garden both vegetables and flowers. Marta and Per enjoyed traveling but being at home with family, especially grandchildren and great grandchildren, were their greatest joy. She always had coffee and goodies for family and friends, and was well-known for her fresh homemade buns and homemade jam. Above all, her faith and church activities were very important to Marta.
