Bridge connecting Baudette and Rainy River, Ontario to be replaced in 2018

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Residents and business owners are encouraged to attend an open house from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28 to learn more about the replacement of the Baudette/Rainy River International Bridge.

A public meeting will be held in each city at the same time:

  • Lake of the Woods Ambulance Garage, 111 Southwest First Avenue, Baudette, Minn.
  • Rainy River Recreation Centre, 219 Government Road, Rainy River, Ontario

The project to replace the bridge is a joint effort between the Minnesota Department of Transportation and the Ontario Ministry of Transportation. It will provide a more structurally sound crossing for improved traffic mobility between the two cities.

The project’s environmental study is estimated to be complete next spring. Final bridge design will take place 2016-2017 and construction is slated to begin in 2018.

The public meeting will be held in an open house format and participants will have the opportunity to review the initial evaluation criteria, preliminary alignment, and structure alternatives. Representatives of the project team will also be available to discuss the project, answer questions, and receive input on the project.
