Lyle Wayne Myhre died on October 16, 2015 at the Spring Creek Care Center in Fort Collins, CO at the age of 69.
He died from medical complications caused by years of alcoholism and smoking. Lyle was born on April 2, 1946 to Dale Sherman Myhre and Jean (Viallant) Myhre in Warren, Minnesota. He grew up in Argyle, Minnesota until the age of 15 when the family moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota. He attend Saint James High School in Grand Forks and graduated in 1963. He attended college in Bismark, ND on a basketball scholarship until he broke his leg. He left college and joined the Navy in April of 1966. He served aboard the Taluga (AO62) as a corpsman striker and then attend corps school in San Diego, California. He served in Guam at the Naval Hospital until his release from the Navy in January 1970. He was united in marriage to Ann Carla Bruns on August 19, 1967 at the Naval Base in Long Beach, California. They had three children. They lived in Agana, Guam; Greeley, Colorado; DesMoines, Iowa and Grand Forks, North Dakota. They divorced in 1981 but remained lifelong friends. He married Cindy Ralston in 1982. They divorced in 1989. There were no children born to that marriage.
He lived the majority of his life in Grand Forks, North Dakota and East Grand Forks, Minnesota. He moved to Loveland, Colorado in 2014 to spend his final years closer to his family. He loved to fish, golfed a lot as a younger man and enjoyed playing cards. He was a Mason and member of the KEM Shriners, Grand Forks, ND and enjoyed helping with parades and spending time with fellow Shriners. While in Colorado he attend many Hockey games with his family including Eagles games and his grandsons Jordan and Dylan’s games.
He worked as a property manager for Wheeler Realty in Greeley, Colorado; Merit Corporation in Des Moines, Iowa and Myhre Management Company in Grand Forks, ND. He also worked as a civilian at the Grand Forks Air Force Base.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his special dog Libby.
Survivors include his first wife, Ann C. Bruns; Children: Sean Carl Myhre (Sara) Castle Rock, CO; Janna Nicole Clark, Fort Collins, CO; Chad Wayne Myhre, Fort Collins, CO; 7 grandchildren: Megan Duncan, Robert Duncan, Aiden Myhre; Jordan Walsh, Dylan Walsh; Raven Myhre and Zachary Myhre. He is also survived by his brother Gary Myhre (Joan) Spokane, WA, niece Shelly Myhre and nephew Scott Myhre; special friend Donna Pike, Grand Forks, ND, and his dog Tucker.
No services are planned. Cremation has taken place and his ashes will be spread according to his wishes.
