Vernon M. “Skip” Peterson, 90

Vernon M. “Skip” Peterson age 90 of Grand Forks, ND passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at the Sanford Health Care Center in Hillsboro, ND.

Vernon Monroe Peterson was born on September 19, 1924 in Twin Valley, MN the son of Delly and Hannah (Hellem) Peterson.  Skip grew up and attended school in Twin Valley, graduating from Twin Valley High School.  He played Amateur Baseball while in high school as a pitcher.  Following his high school graduation, he joined the United States Army where he proudly served in Patton’s 3rd Army 4th Armored Division as a Radio Operator.  He received a Bronze Star Medal during a 1944 battle in France.  Skip and Lois Cresien met in high school and got engaged during World War II.  Ten days after the war ended, they were united in marriage in Minneapolis, MN on November 3, 1945.  Following their marriage, they settled and raised their family in East Grand Forks, MN.  Skip worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad for over twenty years.  In 1963 he began employment at the North Dakota State Mill and Elevator in Grand Forks and retired as a regional sales manager in 1987.  After retirement, Lois and Skip traveled around the Southwest and enjoyed visiting family and friends.  Skip was a passionate and avid golfer along with being a Minnesota Vikings and Twins fan, and above all he loved his wife and family.

Cherished family members of Skip include his loving wife Lois of 69 years; children, Nancy (Norman) Swenson of Grand Forks, ND, Laurie Peterson of Minneapolis, MN and Marc Peterson of Hillsboro, ND; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers and sisters.

Skip’s family would like to extend a special thank you to his longtime Altru physician, Dr. Casey Ryan & his staff and also to the staff of the Hillsboro Sanford Health Care Center for the wonderful care he received the last 5 months.

Memorial Service:  2:00 PM on Monday, September 21, 2015 in Dahl Funeral Home, 2029 Central Ave. NW, East Grand Forks, MN.

Visitation: One Hour Prior Memorial Service on Monday, in Dahl Funeral Home.
