Vivian Joyce Dvergsten, 85

Vivian Joyce (Erickson) Dvergsten, the daughter of Clara (Haaby) Erickson and George S Erickson, was born on February 1st, 1930 in Dieter Township, Roseau County, Minnesota.  She grew up in the Fox – Ross area; attended Northwestern School of Agriculture in Crookston, Roseau High School.  She graduated from Oak Grove Lutheran School in Fargo, ND.  Vivian attended and graduated from Grand Forks Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing with a Registered Nurse degree.

On April 20th, 1951 she married Orville Dvergsten at Rose Lutheran Church, Roseau, MN.  They moved to Grafton, ND where she worked as an RN.  In the fall of 1951, they moved to International Falls, MN and lived there for five years.  In 1956, they moved to Roseau for three years.  In 1959, Vivian and Orville moved to Littlefork, working at the Falls Memorial Hospital and Littlefork Community Hospital until 1968 when they returned to Roseau.  Vivian and Orville bought her parents farm, raising beef cattle.  Vivian attended and graduated from St. Luke’s Hospital School of Anesthesia graduating in 1972 as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.

From 1972 to 1979, she worked at Northwestern Hospital in Thief River Falls, Greenbush Community Hospital, Riverside Hospital in Crookston and Virginia Municipal Hospital in Virginia, MN.   Vivian began working as a CRNA at the Roseau Area Hospital in 1979 and worked there until her retirement January 1st, 1995.  In her retirement, she spent her winters in Arizona; and much time with her new love of painting.  She was a member of the Red River Watercolor Society.

Vivian and Orville were members of Moe Lutheran Church in Roseau.  They had a passion for Chariot Racing in the local area and Thoroughbred Horse racing in Winnipeg.

Vivian is survived by her daughter, Violet (Karl) Deilke of Moorhead, MN; sons, Orlan (Debbie) Dvergsten and Gary Dvergsten, Roseau, MN; grandchildren, Adria (Jason) Lund of Warroad, MN, Mindy (Mike) Schneller of Farmington, MN, Casey (Laura) Dvergsten of Wannaska, MN, Priscilla (Garrett) Lee of West Fargo, ND and Jerad Dvergsten of Greenbush; step-grandchildren, Sue (Rick) Thoreson of Fargo, ND, Ann (John) Fee of Denver, CO, Lisa (Jeff) Cook of Barnesville, MN and Skip Deilke of Minneapolis, MN; great-grandchildren, Jaycie, Jordyn, William, Wyatt, Raegan, Julia, Caleb, Beau, Gavin and Carson; step-grandchildren, Ryan, David, Michael, Kelly, Morgan, Tanner, Mackenzie and Alex; sisters, Marion Enerson of Hamilton, ND, Carol (Ronnie) Olson of Roseau, Linda (Gerald) Berg of Greenbush; brother, Clayton (Ruth) Erickson of Roseau; and sister-in-law, Erine Dvergsten of International Falls, MN.  Vivian is also survived by many nieces and nephews and numerous friend plus friends of the art community.

Vivian is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Orville; brothers, Everett and Donald Erickson; sisters-in-law, Bobs Erickson, Irene Erickson; and brother-in-law, Bud Enerson.

Vivian passed away December 8th, 2015 at Oak Crest Senior Living Center, Roseau, MN at age 85.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 11, 2015 at 11 AM at the Rose Free Lutheran Church in Roseau.  Visitation will be on Thursday from 5-7 PM with a 7:00 prayer service at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau.  Interment will be at Moe-Rose Cemetery.
