Kathy Nelson

Kathy was born 6/07/47 at Deaconess Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Phillip and Ardelle (Wold) Olson.  She was raised in Minneapolis and attended Armatage Elementary School, Susan B. Anthony Junior High School, and graduated from Southwest High School.  Following high school she worked as a secretary for Dayton’s Department Store for ten years, where she met her future husband (playing cards on their lunch hour).  She was married to Clyde E. Nelson on September 4th, 1971 at Oak Grove Lutheran Church in Richfield, Minnesota.  After several moves early in their marriage the settled in Maple Grove, Minnesota to raise their family, sons Bradley, Brent, and Brandon.  After staying home a few years and doing daycare, Kathy worked as a secretary and office manager for Olson General Contractors, Inc from 1984 until her retirement in 2002.

 

Her passions in life included her family, genealogy, reading, baking and entertaining.  During her lifetime she was involved in Nidaros #1 Sons of Norway, Northern Lights couples club, WELCA, and committees at Augustana Lutheran Church(Minneapolis) Advent Lutheran Church (Maple Grove) Rodnes Lutheran Church(Erskine) and Bethel Lutheran Church (Karlstad), Lions, American Legion Auxiliary, Moose country garden club, Karlstad coffee ladies, Erskine and Mazatlán Red Hatters, volunteer at the Beauty shop at Karlstad Nursing Home and getting together with her large circle of fellow “Daytonians”.

 

Kathy was preceded in death by three infant sons, Clyde Jr., Jeffrey, and Matthew; infant daughter Jennifer; mother Ardelle (Wold)Olson; in-laws Gust and Lilly Nelson; paternal grandparents Melvin and Ragna (Nydahl) Olson; maternal grandparents Leonard and Nellie (Holderness) Wold; sister in-law Pricilla Nelson; brother in-law Don Stahenke.

 

Kathy is survived by husband Clyde, Karlstad; sons Bradley, St. Francis; Brent, Robbinsdale; and Brandon and friend Brenda, Karlstad; grandchildren Tristan, Karlstad; Cori, LeSueur; Gus, Robbinsdale; Father Phillip Olson, Bloomington; brother David (Susan) Olson, Blaine and their daughter Sarah (Glenn) McClintock, Cedar Rapids, IA; sister Janet (David) Ranney, Maple Grove and sons Christopher (Amanda), Champlin, and Jonas, Maple Grove; brother and sisters-in-law Ragnar & Karen Bjornson, Middleboro, MA; Gloria Stahenke, Erskine, and children Robert, Nadine, Laurie, and Brenda; John and Margie Nelson, Aurora and children Shane, Sheree, Johnny, Joe, and Adam; aunts and uncles Al & Donna Wold, Richfield; Barbara Ramage, Tucson AZ; Karen (Patrick) Johnson, Killeen TX; and Shirley Wold, Bloomington; special friends Dan and Deb Burkett, children Danton, Brandon, and Kami; Larry and Soupy Lien, children Munch and Becky; and many other family and friends.  Kathy counted her family as one of her life’s most precious blessings.
