Betty Eileen Cummins, the daughter of the late Glen and Pauline (Paulson) Johnson, was born on July 17, 1934, in Stokes Twp. of Roseau Co., near Badger, MN. She attended country school near Greenbush and graduated from Greenbush High School in 1952. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On Apr. 8, 1953, Betty was united in marriage to Arthur (Jim) Cummins in Greenbush. The couple made their home at Colorado Springs, CO, then at Ft. Sheridan, CO, prior to moving to their farm in Pelan Twp., Kittson Co., near Karlstad, where they farmed and raised their family. Betty worked at Polaris Industries, Karlstad Memorial Hospital and in home health care as well as on the farm. Jim passed away Feb. 2, 1986. She was a member of the Karlstad American Legion Auxiliary, Royal Neighbors and served as treasure of the Pelan Pioneer Cemetery. She was a member of First Lutheran Church of Karlstad where she taught Sunday School. She enjoyed time with family and friends, gardening, listening to Twins baseball and collecting antiques. She was a caring person with a generous spirit who always thought of others. Betty passed away on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 10, 2016, at the Karlstad Senior Living Center in Karlstad at the age of 81 years, 5 months and 21 days.
She is survived by two sons: Merlin, of Buhl, MN and Wayne (Kelly) of Karlstad; 7 grandchildren: Shawn Cummins, Patrick (Crystadl) Sele, Desiree (Brian) Bertilrud, Maxwell (Francesca) Omdahl and Levi and Maykin Caco and Lacey Davis; 10 great-grandchildren: Kevin and A.J. Sele, Syver, Mikkel and Iver Bertilrud, Landon and Kora Caco and Madison Davis; in addition to several nieces, nephews, cousin and other relatives.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and daughter: Lori in 2011.
