Ellen Rose Peters, age 88, of Johnsburg, died Wednesday, February 3, 2016, at her home. Born January 8, 1928 in Mundelein to John and Celena (LaMagdeleine) Thatcher, Ellen was one of 14 children in her family. On April 9, 1949, Ellen R. Thatcher was united in marriage with Howard A. Peters at Ivanhoe Church in Ivanhoe.
In 1954, Howard and Ellen moved to Baudette, MN, where Howard farmed until 1967, when they moved back to Illinois. Ellen was a homemaker for the majority of her lifetime, and loved sewing and various crafting. She was a crossword puzzles enthusiast and enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles. Other enjoyments during her lifetime included playing cards and card games, and going fishing. A loving mother, she adored being a grandmother to her grandchildren.
Survivors include three sons, Randy (Barbara) Peters of Round Lake, Donald (Ruth) Peters of Johnsburg, and Darrold (Margo) Peters of Johnsburg; four grandchildren, Daniel (Danielle) Peters of Newport News, VA, Russell Peters of Johnsburg, Lucas (Bonnie) Peters of Colorado Springs, CO, and Alyssa Peters of Johnsburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard, on January 15, 2012; and 13 brothers and sisters.
There will be no visitation. The cremation rite will be accorded privately.
