Anita (Gramstad) Schwartzman died January 8, 2016 at the Halstad Living Center in Halstad, MN.
Anita Gramstad was born March 7, 1936 in Crookston, MN to Knute and Laura (Lunos) Gramstad. She graduated from the Climax Public School. Anita met John Schwartzman at the roller skating rink in Crookston and they soon married and lived in Climax. Anita worked at Hovland Hardware, Wollertson’s Grocery Store and several post offices. She worked on the potato harvester in the fall for Ronnie Peterson and Kenny Boe. Anita and her best friend, Yvonne Engelstad, owned a ceramic business, The Clay Cellar, in Anita’s basement in the 1970’s. She loved to bowl with Yvonne for the Ottertail Power Company of Crookston.
Anita was a lifelong member of Climax Lutheran Church and served as the mayor of Climax in 1997, 1998 and from 2009 to 2012. She also helped organized several all school reunions.
Anita is survived by her mother-in-law, Kathleen Monroe, Halstad, MN; daughters and sons-in-law: Lana and David Palm, Cummings, ND, Kim and Rodney Wegge, Nielsville, MN; daughter, Dana Schwartzman, Northfield, MN; daughter-in-law, Cynde Kollar-Schwartzman, San Antonio, TX; grandchildren; Shana (Matthew) Williams, Erin (Christopher) Stumbo, Casey (Tasha) Wegge, and Lindsay Wegge; great-grandchildren; Siri Williams, and Ryan and Ruby Wegge. She is also survived by her nieces and husbands Cookie and Mark Steinberger; Irene and Danny Anderson, Maureen and Birdean Kostrzewski; and nephew, Marlin Foss.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Knute and Laura; her husband, John; her son, Kit Schwartzman; brother, Vernon Gramstad; sister, Delores Foss; and her niece, Paulette Foss.
Anita’s body will be donated to the Medical School at the University of North Dakota. In lieu of thank-you’s a donation will be made to Climax-Shelly Dollars For Scholars-Kit Schwartzman Scholarship.
