James Edward Grabanski, age 75
James Edward Grabanski, age 75, of Grand Forks, ND, passed away at his home on Wednesday, February 24, 2016.
James was born in Alvarado, MN, on June 28, 1940 to the late Joe and Sylvia (Tinnes) Grabanski. He graduated from Crookston Central High School in 1958 and afterwards attended Aircraft Engine Maintenance School. He enlisted in the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1963, serving with the 98th and 303rd Air Refueling Squadrons. He married Marilyn L. Nelson on June 3rd, 1961. Following his honorable discharge he attended the Bureau of Apprehension School and served the community as an East Grand Forks Police Officer for over 25 years, retiring in 1995. He married Carol A. Westberg on December 22, 1995. After his retirement from the force he worked many jobs including Mayo Manufacturing, RJ Zavoral and Sons, RD Offutt, American Crystal Sugar, and working for many area farmers. He was a member of the Minnesota Police Officer Association, American Legion Post 157, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817, Red River Masonic Lodge 292, and the 98th Air Refueling Squadron Veterans Association.
James is survived by his children, Todd (Carol) Grabanski of East Grand Forks, MN; and Lynn (Bruce) Proplesch of Kansas City, Kansas; 4 grandchildren, Astacia, John, Robbie, and Chloe Grabanski; siblings, Joan (Gerald) Mireault of Crookston, MN; Ray (Margaret) Grabanski of Darwin, MN; Dan (Lynne) Grabanski of Fairbault, MN; and Rykk (Melanie) Grabanski of Watkins, CO; and sister in law, Joyce Grabanski of East Grand Forks, MN; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his second wife Carol; parents, Joe and Sylvia Grabanski; and brother, Robert Grabanski.
