Ricarda “Cookie” Mesa age 80 of East Grand Forks, MN passed away on Saturday, January 30th, 2016 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Ricarda Mesa was born on April 3, 1935 in Manvel, ND, the daughter of Eusebio and Melquiades (Hernandez) Mesa. She grew up in Manvel and worked in the fields along with her parents and siblings for area farmers. In 1947 the family moved to East Grand Forks. Cookie’s employment included Western Potato Company and the Elks Club. Due to a disability, she was no longer able to work. After their father passed away, Cookie took care of her mother until the time of her death in 1981.
Cookie liked to crochet, embroider, listen to music and dancing in her younger years. Spending time outside caring for her flower gardens was her favorite pastime. Friends and family would bring their plants to Cookie to revive them, knowing she had a green thumb. It was always entertaining for us when we would visit her, because of her sense of humor. She was a beautiful person and dearly loved by all who knew her.
Cookie is survived by one sister, Antonia (Pedro) Villarreal of East Grand Forks, MN; nieces, nephews, along with great-nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Julia Arriola, Calletana Avila and Cecelia Calderon; brothers, Cleofus Mesa and Albert Mesa Sr.
Blessed be the Memory of Cookie Mesa.
