Sylvia M. Marek, age 95

Sylvia M. Marek, age 95 of Angus, MN passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at her home after a brief bout with cancer.

Sylvia May Srnsky was born on October 29, 1920 in Grand Forks, ND, the daughter of Rudolph and Anna (Machal) Srnsky.  She attended country school through the 8th grade.  On October 24, 1948 she was united in marriage to Raymond Marek at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Tabor, MN.  They made their home in rural Angus on the Marek homestead of which they farmed.  Sadly on September 12, 2002, Raymond passed away.  Sylvia continued living on the farm where she took much pride in her vegetable garden and sharing her bounty with friends and neighbors.  She also loved baking, sewing and crocheting, until the loss of her vision.  Sylvia was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Tabor, MN, and a dedicated member of the church Ladies Aid.  She was a former member of the Minnesota Farmers Union and of the Tabor Farmers Union Local Action Team.  Sylvia also volunteered in the Activities Department at the Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Warren, MN. 

Sylvia is survived by her daughter, Lavonn Marek of Angus, MN and Lavonn’s longtime friend David Schroeder of Grand Forks, ND; Sylvia’s kitty cat, Kittska who never left her bedside during her illness; sister-in-law, Elsie Marek of East Grand Forks, MN along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother Walter Srnsky; husband, Raymond Marek; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lawrence and Elsie Marek, Stanley and Angela Stengl, and Melvin Marek.

A special thank you to the Warren, MN, branch of Hospice for their kindness and care shown to Sylvia and to all who kept her in their prayers.

 

Funeral Service:  2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Tabor, MN.

Visitation:  Two Hours Prior Funeral Service on Tuesday, April 5th in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Tabor, MN

Interment:  Czech National Cemetery ~ Tabor, MN
