Richard Englund 73

Richard Englund 73, of Lake Bronson, Minnesota passed away at home Saturday, April 2, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer.  Richard Paul Englund was born in Arveson Township just west of Karlstad, Minnesota January 7, 1943 to Nimrod and Nora (Hams) Englund.  He grew up in Karlstad and graduated from high school there in 1961.  Richard moved to Minneapolis following graduation.  On January 25, 1964 he married Catherine Flint who he spent the next 52 years plus with and was blessed with three children.  He worked for Blue Cross two and half years and later at Donaldson Manufacturing in St. Paul for 10 years.  In 1966 he and Cathy moved to Blaine, Minnesota and lived there until 1974 when they bought Margaret’s Café in Karlstad.  After some remodeling they opened as Englund’s Café which he ran for six years.  Richard began working at Motor Coach Industries in Pembina, North Dakota in 1981.  He worked in their paint department until 2005 when he retired because his legs couldn’t take the cement any longer.  It was a job he loved and even in retirement wished he was able to get up in morning and head off to work.  He enjoyed working at refinishing furniture, cooking, working in the yard and even painted a few vehicles.  He was an avid fan of the Vikings and Minnesota Twins.  In 1982 he moved to Lake Bronson where he lived until he passed away.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy; a daughter, Janell (Gary) Thordarson, Crookston, MN; sons, Jeffrey W. (Lari-Ann), Hallock, MN and Jeremy, Crookston; seven grandchildren, Tony, Dustin, Cassie, Nikki, Falyn, Taryn and Jeffrey L; five great grandchildren, Aleah, Tucker, Bentlee, Silas and Kane; brothers, Jim (Connnie) Englund, Karlstad and Larry (Evelyn) Englund, Anchorage, AK; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents; baby sister, Charlotte and brothers, Gene, Louis, Charlie, Rodney, Gary and Jackie.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, April 8, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in the Community Covenant Church at Lake Bronson. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Lake Bronson. Visitation will be held at Austin Funeral Chapel at Hallock on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. and at the church for one hour prior to the service. Pastor Wesley Staie, presiding; Barbara Staie, pianist; Marjorie Hawk, Wesley Staie and Galen Nordin, soloists. Casket bearers will be Jeffrey L. Englund, Tony Shablow, Dustin Shablow, Jamie Englund, Louis Englund, Leif Englund, Tom Englund and Terry Englund.
