A Memorial Service for Elizabeth Hauger of Baudette, MN will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 2:00PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Baudette, MN. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 1:00PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Baudette, MN. Interment will be held at Elm Park Cemetery in Baudette, MN.

Elizabeth Hauger, longtime resident of Baudette passed peacefully May 10, 2016, at Lakewood Care Center in Baudette, Minnesota at the age of 104. Elizabeth was born August 13, 1911 to John and Barbara (Judnic) Zupetz in Virginia, Minnesota.

Elizabeth taught sixth grade at the Baudette Elementary School for most of her career. After her retirement Elizabeth spent several years in Thief River Falls where she continued to enrich the lives of students through substitute teaching. Elizabeth returned to Baudette in 2003 and was a resident at Parker’s ARC.

Elizabeth married Grant Hauger in 1939 and they operated the L.B. Hartz grocery store in Baudette until Grant’s untimely death in 1956. Elizabeth was devoted to her four children seeing that they traveled the United States and all received a college education.

Her many interests included making quilts, doll clothes, and many crafts. She was an avid reader and writer, entertaining people with her weekly quizzes, many of which were published in the weekly newspaper and in book form.

Elizabeth is survived by one daughter, Barbara Hauger of Thief River Falls, Minnesota, two sons, Geoffrey (Mary) of Orland, Maine and Byron (Marcia) of Williams, Minnesota, six grandchildren; Gary Hauger, Margaret Hanscom, Elizabeth Sterk, Peter Sterk, Harland Hauger, and Clark Hauger, four great grandchildren; Emily Hanscom, Allison Hanscom, Greggory Hauger, and Hart Hauger, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Grant; daughter Nancy (John) Sterk of Rush City, Minnesota, brothers; John, Rudolf and Martin, sisters; Mary Fredrick, Josephine Duhont, Beatrice Garner, Margaret Hagan and Helen Fryette.
