Irene May Bostrom, the daughter of the late George and Sarah (Lingren) Stearns, was born on July 21, 1925, at Detroit Lakes Minnesota. She graduated from high school there in 1943 and attended Moorhead State College for two years. She taught at a country school at Vergas, Minnesota for a year and substituted at Karlstad for several years. Irene worked at the Karlstad State Bank, State Farm Insurance and Engen Drug, all in Karlstad. She also worked as a bookkeeper at Super Market Foods for several years. She was active in the Karlstad Senior Citizens, Bethel Ladies Aid, Karlstad American Legion Auxiliary and the Karlstad Eagles Auxiliary. She has made her home in Karlstad for many years, most recently at the Meadows Assisted Living and at the Karlstad Senior Living Center, where she passed away on Friday evening, January 8, 2016, at the age of 90 years, 5 months and 17 days.
She is survived by one daughter: Anita (Hal) Richman, Kaneohe, Hawaii; one son: Paul (Kay) Bostrom, of Karlstad; 2 grandchildren: Brock Bostrom and Farrah (Paul) Billing; 4 great-grandchildren: Dalton, Perry, Amethyst and Ella; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, one son: Patrick, two brothers and two sisters.
