Jeremiah “Jerry” Paul Driscoll, age 86, of Moorhead, MN, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away Friday, June 10, 2016, at Regents Hospital in St. Paul, MN.
Jerry was born on July 2, 1929 in Grand Forks, ND, to the late Leonard and Gertrude (Henderson) Driscoll of East Grand Forks, MN. He grew up on the family farm in Huntsville Township, MN. He attended Sacred Heart High School in East Grand Forks, MN, and lettered in basketball and was later inducted in the Sacred Heart School Athletic Hall of Fame. After graduation, he attended telegraphy school in Minneapolis and later worked on the family farm.
Jerry served in the US Air Force from 1951 to 1955, serving one year in Korea. Upon coming home, he attended the University of North Dakota, but he returned to farming with his father and brothers, Ray and Keith, in 1957. He partnered with his father, operating Leonard Driscoll and Son Potato Company until he purchased the farming operation from his father in 1970. Jerry continued to operate the potato warehouse until it was sold to Red River Chip Associates in 1972. After that he continued to farm, raising grains and sugar beets.
Jerry was a Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) Instructor for four years at Sacred Heart and served as president of the Religious Education Board. He also served as president of the Valley Elementary PTA and the East Grand Forks Jaycees and was a member of American Legion Post #157 and VFW Post #3817.
Jerry retired from farming in 1992. During his retirement, Jerry stayed active in Sacred Heart Catholic Church and School for many years. He was an avid card player and took pleasure in solving crossword puzzles. He also enjoyed many years at Maple Lake with family and friends.
Jerry was very fortunate to have three loves in his life. He married Dorothea “Duffy” Christian on July 6, 1957. They had four daughters, Kathy, Lisa, Jerrilyn, and Jennifer. Dorothea passed away unexpectedly on April 5, 1973. He was then married to Marcia Huffman on June 22, 1976. She passed away from cancer on December 18, 1992. He was then fortunate to marry once again. He married Rose Ann Quiner on August 23, 1996, and they would have celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary this year. Together, Jerry and Rose Ann were very active in the lives of their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They also travelled a lot together, wintering in Mesa, AZ and spending the rest of their time in Minnesota.
