Gloria L. Zak, age 86, of Grand Forks, ND, formerly of East Grand Forks, MN, passed Sunday morning, July 17, 2016, at Woodside Village in Grand Forks, ND.
Gloria Lorraine Oberg was born on July 22, 1929, in Warren, MN, the daughter of the late Walter and Minnie (Stark) Oberg. She was raised in Warren, MN, and graduated from Warren High School in 1947. Gloria and Franklin Zak were married in Dothan, AL on June 26, 1951, and they made their home in rural East Grand Forks, MN. Gloria received her nurse education and training at Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. Gloria began her long nursing career in 1955 when she worked as a nurse for Deaconess Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. She retired from Nursing Administration at United Hospital in 1991 and she was inducted into the United Hospital Nurses Hall of Fame in 1996. After retiring, Gloria and Frank spent many years wintering in Arizona.
Gloria is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Franklin Zak of Grand Forks, ND; sons, Michael Zak of Minneapolis, MN; Joel Zak of Minneapolis, MN; and Jeffrey Zak of East Grand Forks, MN; daughter, Loellen (Michael) Grzeskowiak of Savage, MN; two grandchildren, Jacob and Luke Grzeskowiak; and sister, Carol Crow of Topeka, KS. She was preceded in death by her son, Daniel Zak; parents, Walter and Minnie Oberg; brothers, Harold, Richard, Glenn, and Elton Oberg; and sisters, Ione Copp, Idola Knutson, and Eileen Filipi.
Funeral Service: 2:30 pm ~ Thursday, July 21, 2016, at Mendenhall Presbyterian Church in East Grand Forks, MN.
Visitation: 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm with a 6:30 pm Prayer Service ~ Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at Mendenhall Presbyterian Church
Interment: Resurrection Cemetery ~ East Grand Forks, MN
