Daniel Moncada, age 63, of East Grand Forks, MN, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2016 in his home surrounded by loved ones. Daniel was born on March 29, 1953, in East Grand Forks and was one of seven children born to the late Guadelupe and Dora (Gonzalez) Moncada. He was married to Sandra Smith. As a young man, Daniel made his living as an iron worker in Texas. Years later he returned to East Grand Forks and became a carpenter, a trade in which he took a great deal of pride. He was then married to Kathy Ostlund.
He was known as a jack-of-all-trades by the friends and family members he helped over the years. Daniel was also known for his love of family, his strong will and good work ethic. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor and his infectious laughter. What brought joy to Daniels heart was cooking for his children and grandchildren, as this was a reason in bring his family together. Daniel had a strong faith and was an active member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses. For the last several years, he enjoyed practicing the ministry and spending time with his brother and sisters of the church.
Daniel is survived by children, Estella (Shaun) Sabin, of Grand Forks, Paula Moncada of East Grand Forks, Jeremiah Moncada of Big Spring, TX, Joseph Moncada of Coleman FL, Daniel (Kristi) Bartlette of Fargo, ND, and Chad Ostlund of Grand Forks. He was known as “Grandpa” to 13 grandchildren; Dalton, Azayla, Linkoln, Mercades, Colton, Shyanne, Brianne M, Iesha, Isreal, Brianne R., Ashton, McLean and Brielle.
Daniel also has one sister FlorEstella (Gary) Kiefat of Grand Forks, ND, and has many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Guadelupe JR, Oscar, Rueben, Charlie and Baldemar.
Memorial Service: 4:00 PM, Saturday, July 30, 2016 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, East Grand Forks, MN.
