Michael P. Hettwer, age 69 of Grand Forks, ND, passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Michael Peter Hettwer was born on April 3, 1947 in Devils Lake, ND, the son of Vincent and Ethel (Korb) Hettwer. Michael was raised in Calio, ND and graduated from Egland High School. He attended the University of North Dakota and earned a BS in Business Administration. On August 12, 1972 he was united in marriage to Darlene Avery in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in East Grand Forks, MN. Michael worked as an area Fieldman for U- Haul Company of Fargo, ND, from 1970 to 1972. From 1972 until 1980 he was an Independent Lease Operator for Central Phillips 66 in Grand Forks. From 1980 to 1987 he was General Manager of U-Haul Center in Grand Forks. From 1988 to 1990 he worked construction. In 1990 he began employment at Wal-Mart as a Sales Associate in Grand Forks. In 2013 he retired due to ill health.
Michael was a member of the Knights of Columbus and also St. Michael’s Bridge Builders.
Loving family members of Michael include his wife Darlene of Grand Forks; children, Darcy (Bob) Lau of Owatonna, MN, John Hettwer of St. Cloud, MN, Jenny (Randy) Schwartz of Marshall, MN, Mark (Joelene) Hettwer of Wahpeton, ND and Julie (Marc) Schreier of Grand Forks, ND; ten grandchildren; siblings, Joe Hettwer of Fargo, ND, Clarine (Ron) Moen of Lincoln, NE, Mary (Joe) Mangen of Sleepeye, MN, Ray (Patty) Hettwer of Brea, CA, Richard (Elaine) Hettwer of Rochester, MN, Peter (Wanda) Hettwer of Fargo, ND, Paul (Nancy) Hettwer of Grand Forks, ND, Theresa (Jim) Schober of Grand Forks, ND, Tricia (Kip) Viau of Grand Forks, ND and Jim (Judy) Hettwer of Grand Forks, ND.
He is preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother Francis Hettwer.
Funeral Service: 11:00 AM on Monday, August 8, 2016 in St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.
Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00 with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service on Sunday, August 7, 2016 in Dahl Funeral Home, 2029 Central Ave. NW, East Grand Forks, MN and also one hour prior Funeral Service on Monday in St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
Interment: Memorial Park South Cemetery ~ Grand Forks, ND
