Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar visited rural Hallock, more specifically micro-distiller Får North Spirits, as part of her two-day “Minnesota Works” Workforce Development Tour, August 16 and 17.
Besides sampling some of Får North Spirit’s whiskey and rum on that August 17 visit, Klobuchar met with its co-founders and owners and couple, Michael Swanson and Cheri Reese, touring the facility and discussing among other topics, the intersection between agriculture, forestry, and distilling.
Having the senator as a visitor, “very involved” in agriculture legislation, Reese said, they at Får North Spirits really wanted to emphasize the distilling industry’s impact on a various other bodies, such as farms, and restaurants and bars.
“We use Minnesota grains that Michael farms and we use Minnesota barrels,” Reese said. “So there’s this great relationship among the distilling industry. It’s not just distilling. It’s farming and forestry too.”
